The credit of Apple iPhone's phenomenal success majorly goes to its App Store and we've seen the clouds of controversy always cluttering the walled-garden. Following the launch of the Apple App Store, several mobile makers introduced their own mobile app stores. And now, twelve of the world's biggest cellular networks are joining hands to bring Apple App Store rival.

Times Online reported that AT&T, Orange, Telefonica and nine other mobile operators are joining hands to form an alliance to build an open technology platform (OTP). At the ongoing Mobile World Congress 2010, the announcement would be made and also the handset makers - Samsung, Sony Ericsson and LG.

The Open Technology Platform would basically comprise creating one uniform and singular platform for developer to create apps that will be supported by multiple devices. Now, it looks like operators are looking forward to make cash from app stores like Apple's App Store, Android Marketplace and so on.

Will there be a single app store for all devices? We aren't sure and don't think that's even a possibility. However, we think that this Open Technology Platform will surely introduce a layer of security and uniformity to make the apps device independent.

This alliance is a big plan to compete against Apple's App Store by making it simpler for developers to make apps. Now, we wait to see how Apple responds to this alliance, if it ever does.
