    Motorola Droid To Get Multitouch

There will be no support for active wallpaper ala the Nexus One

The Nexus One just got it so why should cousin Droid be left behind? Motorola's Droid will very soon receive an update that will make the phone multitouch enabled. Apparently, the phone is getting an update to Android 2.1, which as you might know, supports multitouch gestures.

However, multitouch support will be available only within the browser and Google Maps from what we know. It would be really disappointing if it doesn t arrive for the image gallery as well. There is no word as to when to expect this update to trickle in although some sources say it could be as early as next week. Apart from multitouch, there doesnt seem to be any revolutionary updates being included. For example, the home screen is still the same as 2.0.1 - which means you won't see the rotating 3D grid of icons.

There will be no support for active wallpaper ala the Nexus One. However it does get the News and weather widgets from the Nexus One.

Stop crying about Androids different OS versions. Is it any different than what you see from Windows? Here in the office we have computers running Win95, 98, 2000, XP and a few Vista's. Many due to software and hardware capabilities of the PC's and equipment controlled by those PC's. So if your not demanding Windows to have just one OS version then stop it with the Android. If you want all the latest and greatest that the N1 offers, then buy a Nexus. You get what you pay for, generally. Why not demand Apple software run on all Smartphones in AT&T lineup so every cell phone from every maker can be the same? This country is built on competition and you have serveral companies (HTC, Motorola, RIM, Nokia, etc.) trying to make there phone better than the others. Right now N1 is at the top of the mountain in phone specs. So quit trying to make your civic run like a ferrari.

I'm calling total and utter B@LLSH$T on this one. My rooted Droid supports and runs ALL 2.1 features nooooooo problem. And my processor isn't even clocked. There's some shenanigans needs ta be explained.......but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Google needs to rein in the Android herd and start handling things the Apple way. This fragmentation within Android as far as what phone is running what OS and what manufacture/carrier is going to or not going to update is getting ridiculous. If an update doesn't include ll the features of the latest OS it shouldn't be given the same designation as that OS. There is no reason why the Droid can't run the full 2.1 OS.

Does not seem to be an update as much as a teaser to keep all us complainers at bay. Just tell us it is an update but the only diff is multi-touch in the browser basically, what else?
