There is no doubt regarding the fact that India is an attractive destination for mobile phone manufacturers who wish to cash in on the on the thriving low-cost, high volume market. Almost every manufacturer has a line-up of low-end handsets. The question is, how low can low-end go?
The cheapest phones available in India range in the $25 (Rs. 1,200) to $40 (Rs. 1,800) range. The 1280, for example, costs around $30 (Rs. 1,500) and happens to be the cheapest phone from Nokia as of now. However, if new reports are to be believed, Nokia is working on a device, a very basic phone that would set you back by just $10 (Rs. 500). To give you an idea of how basic the Rs. 500 phone would turn out, take a look at the Nokia 1280 features. Even though it is a low-end phone, it has quite a few features like a 96x68 pixels monochrome display, 3.5mm headset jack, FM radio, MP3 ringtones and even a flashlight. The new low-end king can simply bypass these features to cut costs and the result would be the $10 phone!
The Economic Times reports that these $10 phones will be a limited edition devices with a limited production run. That is something strange because Nokia has been traditionally known to flood its market with low-end devices. Will you buy the $10 phone whenever it arrives? Leave us a comment and let us know.
It would be useful for school going kids. Just incoming, outgoing and caller ID is enough. No memory, No SMS features needed. Any way SIMs will provide some memory to store members.
If this phone can provide us with some storage space to store phone numbers, CLIP, good battery backup, less charging time, unbreakable body shell AND the facility to send and receive SMSs, I feel this phone will be a super duper hit! :)
OF COURSE I'LL BUY IT,
nowadays everybody has more then one phone, and Almost second one is use to be cheapest one, and people mostly purchase it in second as to use it as just business contacts and professional purpose,
Although NOKIA has a large chunk of the Indian Mobile Phone Market, it is know to give the Indian market a step-motherly treatment. What exlse explains NOKIA's policy of introducing Models in the Indian market many months after the same has been launched in the other international markets such as UK & USA ?
I won't. But in India so many people who are not used any mobile phone yet will go for this phone (that means the majority) and also the companies who offer mobile phone to it's employees (not high class). Good work Nokia
i dont think any body will buy it if any body then it will be the starters only as bcos the more the prices are down the more less attractive and less features u find where in india the people and hungry about new designs features and large screen with edgier graphics and cuts .Its a simple example to compare as of what happened with TATA NANO.Now on this current people have money and they are purchasing and with the previous economic melt down people in india where purchasing, did it stop i dont thing so so how u think they will buy one of this
Dont listen to negative reviews.. solid phone, good response, fast enough compared to 5800 (i felt faster than 5800 old editions) gotta compromise 3g though, but go for 5230 then for ~1k extra.. again it is a great phone.. go ahead and buy.. 100 times better than non smart corby :P
This is something making us laugh. Most likely an use and throw phone. Few can use it as an temporary phone in may situations. Poorest people can buy this handset which will be worth as long as they work well.
