The iPhone Dev-Team has released the new version of its Mac-based jailbreaking tool. The all new PwnageTool 3.1.5 is meant for iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS (baseband 04.26.08 and older bootrom models), and iPod Touch (1G and pre-jailbroken 2G) devices. The PwnageTool is used to create custom .ipsw files that are now compatible with the latest iPhone OS update. However, the iPhone Dev-Team suggests that if you aren't aware about the bootrom version and still wish to jailbreak your device, kindly avoid this tool.

Once the custom .ipsw is updated in the iPhone, the users can add ultrasn0w repository in his Cydia source to unlock his phone. Last week, the iPhone Dev-Team also released redsn0w 0.9.4 for Windows platform based users which was bit unusual as Mac tool comes out first.

Apple had recently released the iPhone OS 3.1.3 update which mainly brought a couple of bug fixes but no new features.

Hi I have just smashed the screen on my jailbroken iphone 3G and I have it insured, my insurer are upgrading my phone to a 3GS free of charge. They are collecting my old phone and I have a couple of questions. Firstly, should I restore the phone to factory settings so they cant find out it has been jailbreaked and secondly will i be able to jailbreak the new iphone 3GS???

First of all, you should defiantly restore through itunes. and no, all new 3gs iphones have a new boot rom that only allows you to have a tethered jailbreak. If you do not restore it they may not replace it.

Downgrading from 3.1.3 to 3.1.2 was the easy part. Download a 3.1.2 ispw file from somewhere. Do a search and you can find a ton. Put the iPhone in DFU mode. iTunes will detect and ask you to restore. Click and hold SHIFT and then Restore. Select the 3.1.2 file you downloaded and start restoring. In about 4-5 minutes, you will get an error message 1015. Nothing to worry. Run blackra1n and jailbreak. However, this is where I get stuck. My baseband is the same and no network. I winder if there is a software in Cydia that downgrades the BB?!

You have to wait until a new software comes out to jailbreak and unlock 3,1.3. Apple has a hand up on us until someone cracks the code.
