Apple's App Store and its "draconian" (according to many) app approval policy has been under the scanner for quite some time now. In 2009, even Google's "Voice" application was denied entry into the app store - a
decision that raised many eyebrows
2010 has begun, and when we thought all was well, Apple and the App Store is back in the news. This time round, while the reason might not be VERY controversial - it has a Google connection nevertheless. What happened? You might ask.
Well, Apple delayed the
publication of an App to the Store until the developer removed a reference to Android in the description of the application. The application in question is "Flash of Genius: SAT Vocab". The application had a note that read "Finalist in Google's Android Developer's Challenge!" Apple wasn't particularly impressed with the reference to a competing OS in its turf and demanded the developer to remove it which he did.
Apple issued a self explanatory note to the developer clarifying its stand. It went something like this: "Providing future platform compatibility plans or other general platform references are not relevant in the context of the iPhone App Store. While your application has not been rejected, it would be appropriate to remove from the Application Description."
