    Nexus One

Prasad Naik, Feb 08, 2010 1310 hrs IST

We reviewed it, we loved it!

Superb design and build, excellent display quality, Android 2.1 OS with Android Market, 1GHz Snapdragon processor, great interface design, excellent web browser, good connectivity features, voice to text converter

Display has poor sunlight visibility and slightly over-saturated colors, interface is occasionally jittery, no DivX/XviD playback, inadequate loudspeaker volume, keys under display are a bit frustrating to use

After being present in the mobile phone industry as just a software manufacturer, Google has finally decided to take the plunge and make its first very own mobile phone to compete with the likes of Nokia, Samsung, Apple and BlackBerry. Its weapon of choice? The Nexus One. Manufactured by HTC for Google, the Nexus One has, by far, one of the most impressive specifications list you can find in a smartphone. Or should I call it Superphone, as Google does. The Nexus One comes armed with Qualcomm's finest 1GHz Snapdragon processor, a 3.7-inch, 800 x 480 pixel AMOLED display, a 5 megapixel camera, HSDPA, Wi-Fi, GPS and runs on the latest and greatest Android 2.1 operating system.

Although the Nexus One is so far only sold in U.S., we managed to get our hands on one sample in India, which was bought from U.S. We spent some time with the Nexus One and this is what we have to say about it.

Bundle:

  • Nexus One
  • Battery
  • Charger
  • Headset
  • USB Cable
  • Carry Case
  • 4GB microSD card
  • User Guide

Its gonna cost somewhere around $25k when it reaches india with certain modifications...you can check it on ebay and buy it for $450 + however plz avoid getting it shipped to india from US as custom tax people will make you pay tax upto the limit of 38%.. so if you have someone in US ask then to buy one from there and bring it by hand to you in india. cheers ...wud luv to have this phone...

Does this phone come with FM ? I also have a question to the technologists, Can I install Windows Mobile 6.5 on a Nexus One phone ? Is that possible ? Thinking logically, it should as this the same hardware spec's for HTC HD-2. So it should work with Win Mob too... I m planning to do this way as the exterior looking this phone is gr8 but i dont really like Android OS. Pls tell me your views on the above.

" the service requires an Internet connection on the phone as conversion process takes online at Google s servers." Are you sure of this? Does this mean that, your voice will be sent to cloud which converts it to text and sends back to phone all at fraction of a second?

Yes, that is true. But whether it happens in a fraction of a second or longer depends upon the speed of the Internet connection on your phone.

Double resolution compared to iphone, double ram and double the processor power, almost double megapizel camera, and half(or 1/4th) storage as that of iphone.. Not a bad deal at all.! If your internet usage is mainly for gmail, orkut, and other google sites, then this is the best money can buy!

Nexuss doesnt make US market thrilled. It forces google to bring down its innitial price. So eventully it is good news for Indian market, as google will see other market important. (As iPhone get hit in Us, Apple doesnt need for lowering its price in forign.) Hope N.O. price will come down in near future, then it will be dearer one!

The phone has "excellent display quality" even though it has "poor sunlight visibility and slightly over-saturated colors" ?
Rahul Srinivas
,Mumbai, on Feb 08, 2010 09:00 PM
Precisely. AMOLED screens are "excellent quality" screens. Their only weakness is visibility under sunlight.
Prasad Naik
,Mumbai, on Feb 08, 2010 09:27 PM
When I say 'excellent display quality', I am talking about the actual quality of the display, which is simply phenomenal. The sunlight legibility has nothing to do with the actual picture quality. The slight over-saturation of colors is a bit of an issue bit it is still minor and doesn't detract from the overall viewing experience.
