The graphics and cinematic are much better and real time shooting with ammo is more fun than the previous overload feature. Also, the hacking concept is fresh. Scanning for different resources which are essential for upgrade is also quite interesting but often time consuming. It gets to you after a while, similar to scavenging for minerals in ME1. The Level design is an added advantage that keeps every mission fresh and new. However, there is no inventory management screen here. Only upgrades are possible, which is good, rather than picking up lot of stuff and selling it to earn credits as in ME1.
The game works smooth at 1280 x 800 with all the graphics set to medium & anisotropic filtering at 4x on an Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB of RAM and a 9800 GT graphics card. It looks very good too. However, if you want to play it at higher settings with all the bells and whistles turned on, you better invest in a much more powerful rig, especially on the graphics front. Or simply buy an Xbox 360.
All said and done, Mass Effect 2 is a masterpiece with hardly any major flaws. It is a must-play for all action RPG fans, irrespective of whether you have played the first installment or not. My personal advice would be to finish the first and then move on to the second. It is worth the effort. Mass Effect is said to be a trilogy and I hope Bioware better have a kickass concept for the third chapter, as it is going to be one hell of a challenge to better this one. But that is Bioware's headache. Till then with Mass Effect 2 and its side missions, you have a great role to play.
