If you happen to be an iPhone enthusiast who also happens to be a video freak, here's some news to cheer you up. The next generation iPhone might support HD (720p) video recording, according to latest rumors. And now, some history.
All the three generations of the iPhone has been a let down in terms of sheer video recording and image quality. The first generation iPhone came at a time when 3.2 and 5 megapixel cameras were already in vogue. In 2008, the 3GS arrived with its 3.0 megapixel camera. These in the times of the Samsung Pixon and the N86 -which had 8 megapixel cameras! Yes, 3.0 megapixels is decent enough and neither does the increase in megapixels result in better picture quality. But still, there was a perception that the iPhone was always a generation behind mainstream phones when it comes to the camera.
This story might just change with the next-gen iPhone, which is being made by Pegatron. The new iPhone might come with a snappier processor and is likely to playback (and also record) videos in HD quality. The incriminating piece of evidence pointing towards HD video playback was spotted in the iPhone 3.2 SDK that has a reference towards videos of resolution 1280x720, which in simpler terms is 720p HD recording.
There are already a couple of handsets in the market that can do videos in HD. These include the Samsung Omnia HD and the Sony Ericsson Kurara (aka Vivaz) - both Symbian handsets.
