The Low-Down

Now to find out which is the better of the two, we need to take into account two factors; comfort and audio quality. There are several other factors, but that'll just get things messy and will make me look like a person in a white coat and thick glasses.



Earphones

Earphones are basically smaller sized headphones that sit just outside the ear canal. They generally have a sponge like cover over them to maintain comfort or act as a filter. Earphones aren't capable of reproducing the same quality and experience of sound when compared to headphones, but are much easier to carry around. Earphones are much cheaper as compared to both headphones as well as in-earphones. They are seen bundled with lots of portable audio devices.




In-Earphones

Canalphones also known as in-earphones are basically earphones that are inserted directly into the ear canal. In-earphones offer similar portability as compared to earphones. They are capable of providing an isolated audio experience. However, in-earphones are much expensive as compared to earphones. They feel fragile because of their tiny size as compared to earphones. In-earphones are mostly bundled along with quality audio devices. They come with at least three standard bud fittings (large, medium, and small). The shape of these fittings differs from manufacturer to manufacturer.

Yes i do agree that in-earnphones are good, but their are many chances that you might damage your eardrum while listening to loud music. So i always prefer normal earphone

u missed a point which is very important for ppl like my self.. i normally have my earphones always in my ears even during conversations... the problem is that if I use inyear headfones and turn down the volume u carnt hear a word ppl are saying so definately the ordinary earfones are a better choice for me

Noted prons & cons of both the earphones, I have both earphones & in-earphones. While on the move i.e. travelling I am using Creative EP-630 in-earphones. In-earphones provide mind/brain blowing experience of bass and highs. Where as earphones sound getting leaked and little bit disturbing others as well.

Ya I agree with the "Bottom Line"....as I too like in-earphones compared to earphones. I use to increase the volume of my PMP to like the second-last bar(8th out of 9th) to hear the music using earphones....and know I only raise it to 3rd and max 4th and can enjoy quality music using in-earphone. And in-earphones are also comfortable to my ears :)
