Nikon has finally released its first Coolpix family digital camera with 26x optical zoom, full HD (1080p) capabilities and CMOS Image sensor. New Nikon Coolpix P100 seems like redefined version of P90 and of course with much more imaging power. The P100 uses new 10.3-megapixel CMOS sensor that claims to improve shooting speed and reduce the noise in low-light photos. Nikon's new Coolpix P100 can be expected in U.S. stores by March for $400 (Rs. 19,200 approx).

New Nikon Coolpix P100 has 10.3-megapixel backside-illuminated CMOS image sensor that improves the shooting speed such that it shoots at 120 frames per second bursts. This backside-illuminated CMOS sensor also helps reducing noise-levels and improving performance in low-light environments. The P100 also packs five-way stabilized 26x optical zoom lens in the front and capable of capturing 0.4 inch macro shots.

Boasting as the first of its kind from Nikon, P100 is capable of capturing video at full 1080p HD resolutions along with audio aided with stereo mic on the top. One can make the best of camera's f2.8-5 26-78mm equivalent lens can offer 26x zoom. For stable image capturing with 26x optical zoom, Nikon offers Optical VR that has sensor-shift image stabilization.

P100 is also capable of high-speed movie recording which can create slow-motion video by enabling settings to shoot at 240 frames per second. Both manual and semi-manual modes are available with auto scene recognition, number of scene modes, enable user-selected settings from one place and subject tracking autofocus for moving objects.

Nikon's Coolpix P100 looks feature rich on the whole. However, the 26x optical zoom falls short compared with Fuji and Olympus models bearing 30x optical zoom.

Sorry for being rude, but it seems there is a mistake here "One can make the best of camera's f2.8-5 26-78mm equivalent lens can offer 26x zoom." the focal length is 26-678 mm (equivalent) which makes zoom=678/26=26.08x the actual lens is 4.6-120.0 mm
