Apple has released a new firmware update for the iPhone and iPod touch - v3.1.3. The changes mostly include bug fixes and performance improvements in the form of improved accuracy for reported battery level on the iPhone 3GS. It also resolves the issue where third party applications would not launch at times and a includes a bug fix which would have caused an app to crash while using the Japanese Kana keyboard.

No new features have been added and users would have to wait for the elusive v3.2 firmware for those. The 3.1.3 update is available as a free download over iTunes for all the iPhones and iPod touch users. The update weighs in at a hefty 228.1 MB, which might seem a lot for just a couple of bug fixes. Those who have jailbroken their devices are advised to wait as the new update will mess with your jailbreak.
