Continuing with the series of articles, this is the third part enlisting games which were planned for a grand release, but despite the apparent hunky-dory, ultimately slumped. You can have a look at the part one here and part two here.

Van Buren (Fallout 3)

Yeah yeah, we know that Fallout 3 was released in 2008, but we are not talking about that Fallout 3.

In 2003, work started on the original Fallout 3, which was codenamed Van Buren. Van Buren was a post-apocalyptic action RPG by Black Isle Studio and had a completely different storyline as compared to the official Fallout 3.

The main character is a prisoner, and the player has a chance to choose the various attributes to determine if the character is supposed to be guilty or was wrongly imprisoned.

The character would have the power to shape the destiny of a wasteland using his/her connections to the organization called Brotherhood of Steel, influencing people associated with other organizations which he may seek to bolster or destroy, in a way similar to previous Fallout games.

Interplay Entertainment, the parent company, decided on December 8, 2003 to lay off the PC development team, thus canceling the game. Bethesda Softworks developed a completely new Fallout 3 in 2008 after Interplay sold them the single player rights to the title.

The only game now I really wanted to see on PC was Gears of War 2! Thanks to His Assness Cliffy B from EPIC, it will never come to PC. And I am not buying an XBOX. Ever.
