Back in 2007, when iPhone was launched, Cisco sued Apple over the product name but later allowed Apple to use it. Recently, after the launch of Apple's brand new iPad tablet, the company is again under troubled waters over the product name. The name 'iPad' is already being heavily ridiculed and to top that Fujitsu as well as STMicroelectronics may sue Apple as they own 'iPad' trademarks.

Fujitsu has been selling iPad handheld PCs for years and its iPad has Intel/Marvell Xscale processor and is limited only to the retail sector. This Fujitsu has 3.5-inch Touchscreen and runs Windows Mobile. While STMicroelectronics has been offering its IPAD (Integrated Passive and Active Devices) products for ten years but these facts don't seem to affect the Apple iPad much.

Fujistu told Financial Times in a statement, "[The company] is aware of Apple's iPad announcement and the possible infringement on our trademark. We are currently discussing our options with our trademark counsel and have no further comment at this time." Even STMicroelectronics is "looking into the situation".

Suits of patents and trademark infringement isn't something new Apple is facing. The terms of agreement between Apple and Cisco over the iPhone issue were never disclosed. If Apple gets sued over the name again, we'd expect something similar. However, we're yet to see what action Fujistu takes against the Apple iPad.
