The Samsung WB550 has a very traditional boxy design with very little visual flair, which is unlike other Samsung cameras. The front side has the large, 24mm Schneider-Kreuznach lens mechanism with 10x zoom. On its left is the flash, which is placed rather awkwardly, and at times I found myself covering the flash with my index finger while shooting. Below it is the focus assist lamp and the IR receiver for the wireless remote (sold separately), which allows you to control the camera when it is connected to the TV, so you can control the video playback.

On the top we can see the loudspeaker on the extreme left, the power button with a blue ring around it, which can be excessively bright in the dark, the camera shutter button and the zoom ring and the camera mode selector. You can choose between Auto mode, Smart Auto, Movie mode, Scene mode, Beauty Shot, Dual IS, Manual Mode and Program mode.
On the back you can see the beautiful 3.0" display. The image quality is superb and the display can make even ordinary images look great on it. The display visibility is great outdoors as well. Like with many cameras these days, the Samsung WB550 does not have a manual viewfinder. On the right is a status LED and beside it is a toggle switch that can be configured to either ISO setting, exposure level or white balance mode, depending upon which one you use the most. This makes it very convenient to quickly adjust these settings without having to dig into the menu.
