Let's hope it comes to other areas of the phone as well
Google's Nexus One, as you might be aware, is a very capable phone, and as was made clear by Google at the time of launch is even capable of multi touch. However, Google chose to not add multitouch support to the Nexus One as of now, with a hint that it would arrive in due course of time.
But thanks to the efforts of an impatient Android enthusiast turned hacker, the Nexus One can be made multitouch compatible that will enable it to stand up to the UI challenge against the current King of the Ring - the iPhone 3GS. The only thing to be concerned about here is that multi touch, as of now, only works within the browser.
Cyanogen, as the hacker is known at XDA Developers Forum has used the Nexus OS, Android 2.1's Open Source origins to enable multi touch on the phone. Multi touch - as you might be aware, allows the user to use two or more fingers to execute commands on touchscreen devices.
Cyanogen is also known for his efforts to bring in SSH, USB support to the Nexus One, just days after the phones release. Head over to XDA Developers to see how to enable multi touch on your Nexus One.
Multitouch is supported by the OS and hardware, only google's own applications don't have it implemented (according to some rumors because of Apple's request), so I'm not sure what you're talking about....
@Betty - Keep taking your apple pills and wait for them to force feed you the next bit of 'revolutionary' tech.
OR
Switch to an open platform and create your own tech. Hmm.... not much of a choice there.
So *IF* I hunt down a certain app... and *IF* I trust it... and *IF* it isn't buggy... and *IF* I run it... I'll get multi-touch in *ONE* app: Just the browser.
Great.
Why not just use any iphone and you automatically have multi-touch everywhere.
Duh.
