A gadget to alert you if you accidentally leave your phone behind
If you have a chronic habit of leaving behind your phone (read: forgetting) wherever you go, you sure might have faced the not so pleasing financial implications of having to buy a new phone for yourself.
Though you can only hope that you won't forget your phone the next time you eat in a restaurant or visit the mall with your buddies, here's how technology can help you out. Unveiled at the CES 2010, Zomm is the gadget you need to get if you are prone to losing your expensive cellphone every now and then. It is a simple gadget and all you need to do is pair it with your phone using Bluetooth. (If your phone doesn't have Bluetooth, don't worry - it would be so outdated, no one would bother to flick it).
All you need to do now is keep the Zomm "nugget" or the "receiver" as you might want to call it, with you or just attach it to some part of your body. Now, in case you leave your phone behind and start walking away, once you are out of range, the Zoom will alert you by flashing lights. That's the first step of alerting you. In case you do not heed, it will start wailing and thereby reminding you that you're at quite some distance from your phone and you might want to carry it with you. Zomm can also work as a Bluetooth speaker and you can answer calls using it. It also comes with a panic button option that calls for help in the eventuality of you being in a situation where you cannot use your phone. Quite handy.
This little useful gadget is the brainchild of Laurie, a techno savvy mother of three who along with her husband went on to make their concept product to reality. The Zomm will be available later this year and is expected to cost around US $ 80 (INR 3,600)
Well, one who forget something can easily forget zomm too. So need to make it fully bidirectional. I wonder if anyone hear the crying zomm in situation say, when you get in to your car in a hurry by taking the mobile alone (forgetting the paired zomm). zomm may beep, but you can't hear it. So add an application in the mobile to warn that the paired zomm is out of range!. In fact this is the first step. If the mobile application cannot warn forgetting the zomm, making the mobile secured through zomm may be impossible :-)

What a waste of tech minds... If someone has an habit of forget a phone (which is good sized compared to this new device), what stops him from forgetting to carry this device in the 1st place. Total waste of $80.00
But bluetooth powered ON on my phone will drain my phone battery in half the time..
Then I'll be able to use the phone only for 6 hours out of 24. Powering it ON and OFF every now and then is not something everyone will do.. They'll buy this product and use it full blast may be the first one week but then they'll slowly feel lazy to turn bluetooth On and Off every now and then and eventually stop using the product altogether...
I rather use a trouser with nice comfortable pockets to keep my phone in a safe place all the time... this idea is something similar to remote car locking I guess.. car starts to wail if the owner/driver walks away without locking something..
