Promises 11 hours of battery life but packs Windows XP Home instead of Windows 7
After Intel's recent announcement of next-generation Pine Trail platform, it's literally raining Pineview Atom chip based netbooks. While we were already excited about the over 10 hours battery life promising Asus Eee PC 1005PE, Netbooknews.de spotted yet another Eee PC 1001P netbook on German Amazon site. It's all Pineview love of Asus and 11 hours of battery run time promised.
Most significant aspect of the new 45nm process made 1.66GHz Intel Pineview Atom N450 processor is that it integrates graphics and memory controller. Even though Atom chip has moved to second generation, Intel will stick to offer single Atom processors. Also, the three chip solution comprising of Intel Atom N270/N280 CPU, Intel 945GSE chipset, and ICH7M north bridge has been transformed to two chip platform Intel Atom N450 and Intel NM10 Express chipset. The new Atom N450 and NM10 Express chipset together are expected to offer more battery life. Of course, there'd be room for switchable graphics between integrated and discrete.
Asus Eee PC 1001P would pack Intel Atom N450 processor with 1GB RAM and 160GB hard drive. Other standard netbook features include Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n), 0.3 megapixel webcam, three USB 2.0 ports and will come pre-loaded with Windows XP Home Edition. Yes, no Windows 7 Starter goodies for us but Asus promises to offer 11 hours of battery life with 4400 mAh battery.
This Asus Eee PC netbook is listed for $250 (Rs. 12,000 approx.) for shipping in Germany. Like several other Pine Trail netbooks, we expect this one to be announced officially at CES 2010 starting next week.
