After game developers facing greater than average problems to develop games for current PS 3 console
Earlier this year, many rumors buzzed the web about Intel Larrabee being considered for PlayStation 4. This time, the rumors are buzzing the web about Sony considering Intel's Larrabee multi-GPU processor for PlayStation 4 console. Sony has faced enough troubled waters for the complex and costly game development kits for PlayStation 3 console. Hence, the company is considering traditional multi-core microprocessor for the next gen console reported PC Watch.
Sony's PlayStation 3 packs Cell Broadband Engine processor chip that have several synergistic processing units for floating point calculations and other general purpose computing tasks. As per Japanese site PC Watch, Sony is considering to include mainstream multi-core processor in the next-generation PlayStation console. Looks like developers and even gamers are fed up of PlayStation ports just like the recent Bayonetta issue. With the mainstream multicore processor, the game development would be relatively easier, smoother and less costly. Sony must've considered Intel Larrabee, but recently, Intel called off its plans to make Larrabee available to consumers. Instead, Larrabee would be used as software development platform and for graphics development purposes.
Nintendo has already started planning next generation Wii console which will go beyond HD. Microsoft has already canned the rumor about next Xbox 360 in Fall 2010 when Project Natal would be launched. However, the PlayStation 4 is expected to arrive in 2012 and next Xbox as well as Wii was rumored in 2011. Unless there's official word from Sony, it's hard to say much on rumors.
Why is this even making any news. Especially with the misleading title. The PS3s Cell IS Multicore... and guess what. it's available TODAY! O.O Now move along.
