BioWare has shared details about importing Saved Games information from Mass Effect (First game) and New Game+ mode in the sequel. Mass Effect 2 is expected to release for PC and Xbox 360 on January 26, 2010.

In Mass Effect 2, the players will have an option import Mass Effect (first game) character data whenever a new game is to be started. Players can also bring more than one character which will create additional profiles. The PC based players will have to select .MassEffectSave files to import the character data.

Xbox 360 gamers would have to sign into Xbox LIVE to import character data from Xbox 360 hard drive. Just like almost everything has a limit, BioWare levied 11 end-of-game saves that could be imported in into Mass Effect 2. So as BioWare states, if the player was to complete Mass Effect 1 12 times, regardless of the number of unique playthroughs used, the 12th save will not be available for import, but saves 1 through 11 will be available.

The New Game + feature will return in ME2 which will allow the ME1 character completed game saves to be ready for ME2 playing. Those who haven't played Mass Effect yet can quickly grab a copy and complete the game before the sequel arrives in January end.
