Steel Series XAI Gaming Mouse [Review]

Roydon Cerejo, Dec 22, 2009 1413 hrs IST

The most advanced gaming mouse yet

Very good build and finish, hardware level profiles, up to 5001 CPI setting, programmable macros, built-in LCD for switching profiles

Macros can be tricky to program, ambidextrous design makes the two of the four shortcut buttons useless

We don't do a lot of peripherals usually quietly simply because most of them are boring and they really don't make a very interesting read when compared with a cell phone or an MP3 player. The last gaming peripheral we did was the Microsoft Sidewinder X6 keyboard simply because it was something unique and the keys glow red. Recently, Steel Series sent us a couple of their new products out of which one of them was their new gaming mouse. At first, from the outside, it looks like just another gaming mouse. In fact, the packaging doesn't really scream "high end gear" like the way Logitech wraps its mice in.

The box has a large cutout in the front to showcase the mouse which is quite big, more like a rodent actually. A couple features which strike you at first include XAI's ambidextrous design, which is good news for all lefties. Some of the other specialties include custom tracking, extreme precision, upto 5001 CPI (Cycles per Inch - which is actually the correct term instead of DPI), various custom profiles, and 7 programmable buttons. All these features are quite common and actually bland as compared with Logitech mice which give you changeable covers, weight adjustments and so on. However, this one has one ace up its sleeve which we will reveal in a bit. Next, let's check out the bundle.

Bundle

  • XAI mouse
  • Instruction leaflet

There is no driver CD since the program use to customize the mouse is quite small and it makes more sense to download it directly from the site.

Nice review there !!! :) You could also give more reviews on affordable gaming mouses for the gaming comunity, like the Razer Deathadder, Logitech Mx 518 those are brought the most often as the come in the price range of 1500-2500. The reviews too would be helpfull for novice users. As the not many people spend 5k-7k on a mice !
