HTC's flagship Windows Mobile based handset; the monstrous HD2 has finally made its official Indian debut. The feature packed handset might easily be the mobile phone with the largest ever screen. All of 4.3 inches at a jaw dropping 480 X 800 WVGA resolution, this one makes even the Omnia HD look like a midget. The latter "only" has a 3.7-inch screen.

The HD2 is the first Windows Mobile powered handset to sport the Sense UI that was first seen ion the Android based HTC Hero. The HD2 is also different as this one sports a capacitive touchscreen, instead of the usually seen resistive one on WM powered handsets.

The phone boasts of a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor that runs at an incredible 1 GHz and makes the device a zippy customer to work with. It also boasts of 512 MB ROM and 448MB of RAM. Memory can be expanded using microSD cards. The phone is powered by the latest version of Windows Mobile 6.5 and is 3G capable as well.  It boast of a 5-megapixel camera with auto focus and dual LED flash. A 3.5mm jack too finds its way in. The phone is also social media friendly with native support for Facebook and Twitter.

The HD2 is now available in India at Rs. 36,990. In Maharashtra, you will need to shell out more and it will set you back by Rs. 39,990. Tata DoCoMo has announced an offer with the launch of the HTC HD2 phone wherein its subscribers can browse the Internet and download 500MB of data per month free for six months.

I would avoid the HD2 because of its old fashioned Windows Mobile operating system, and wait for the better Android phones that HTC will release in January. The HD2's shape is too wide to fit in the pocket. Although it has a capacitive screen, it still requires a stylus pen for some purposes, such as when you go deep into the operating system, and when you use certain Windows Mobile applications that were designed for stylus pen use. Also, beware the Pink Camera defect which puts a pink circle in the middle of photographs. HTC released a fix, but you have to install it yourself using a Windows PC connected to the phone, and transfer an exe file via a USB cable. Stability is also a problem with Windows Mobile, as I found the phone needs a restart more than once a day. I think the Windows Mobile OS very out dated. That is why the coming phones running the newer Android will be much better than this one.

Do u think HTC Hero is better than HD2? since it is an Android?

Your information on Win Mobile is out-dated. Win Mobile 6.1 is very stable and I have hardly rebooted the HTC Touch Viva (Win Mobile 6.1) since its purchase. Android as of now is in its nascent stages, it will take some time to be as mature (HTC Hero is the case in point)

If you are a business user, there is no doubt that Windows Mobile is the way to go. Its integration with the Office Suite of applications is seamless. Being a business user, one would generally not fiddle around with the deep OS related settings (might be a wrong assumption in some cases). Regarding the fix, the fact that a fix is available means the problem was with software and not the hardware and it could be with any pece of softwre. The reason why I might go for Android is the kind of application that they have developed. they are far ahead in terms of creativity than Microsoft.

You can not use stylus in a capacitive screen.
