It is all set to become the T9 of on-screen QWERTY keyboards
Swype, the company that is making waves in the world of touchscreen text entry with its unique "Swype" method of text entry, has just received a boost in the form of significant funding from Nokia and Samsung.
Swype, a small start-up that was developing an easier way to type on onscreen keyboards, had introduced this method earlier this year. The unique and very easy typing method might just revolutionise the way onscreen keyboards are used. Samsung has already shipped one device with Swype and the company aims to bring Swype to more of its phones soon. Nokia too seems to be interested and recently, Swype received a fresh $5.6 million funding that would augment further development of Swype. Samsung, which calls the Swype text entry method "Geniustexting", will announce a slew of Android devices in the future that will come loaded with Swype. With Nokia too joining the fray, it seems Swype is all set to become the T9 of on-screen QWERTY keyboards!
It is relatively easy to understand how Swype works. All the user needs to do is to drag his fingertip from one letter to the other and that's just about it. A video by PhoneDog should clear things up for you.
