Says Nokia has infringed upon no less than 13 of Apple's patents
Almost two months after Nokia sued Apple for infringing 10 of its patents for GSM, UMTS and wireless LAN (WLAN) standards, Apple has countersued Nokia claiming that the Helsinki based manufacturer has infringed upon no less than 13 of Apple's patents. Apple indirectly took a dig at Nokia when Apple's General Counsel and Senior Vice President quipped, "Other companies must compete with us by inventing their own technologies, not just by stealing ours."
Apart from suing Nokia for fresh infringements, Apple has also replied to Nokia's infringement claims and has said that none of Nokia's patents fall under "essential GSM/UMTS standards" and for the same reason their infringement claims stand invalid. The 79-page report also clarified that Nokia had asked for unreasonable license terms for its patents. Apple has also said that Nokia, due to its "traditional" approach to make devices, has lost a considerable amount of market share after the advent of Apple's iPhone, which, according to them, revolutionized the entire mobile phone industry. Apple also alleges that Nokia "copied" the iPhone and it's famous UI"
Now that both the companies are at legal loggerheads, it will be interesting to see who has the last laugh. Anyway, we presume this to be one long battle with chances of an out of court settlement as well.
NordKIA is a yappy little stray mut biting at the heels of a Bull Mastiff who finally decided to turn around and bite back. Hope those Frozen Fins have a couple of extra Billion to blow in court. Maybe they can pay off some E.U. officials to target Apple again for being TOO successful. Scumbag Eurotrash.
