More rumors and details point that Apple will launch Tablet in Q1 next year
As we last noted that the Apple Tablet is due next year, in comes an analyst's opinion stating that production of the Tablet will begin in February. Yair Reiner, a research analyst at Oppenheimer, stated that Apple's upcoming Tablet would have 10.1-inch LCD screen in a note to investors. This Apple Tablet is anticipated to be launched in March or April next year. He also added that Apple has been talking with book publishers for content offering as well.
The device would sport LTPS (Low Temperature Poly Silicion) LCD technology based 10.1-inch display. Apple would take at least five to six weeks for building up the inventory.
Reiner added that Apple has been approaching book publishers with very attractive proposals to the book publishers for distributing their content. His notes stated, "It should also make eBooks more relevant for education by simplifying functions such as scribbling marginalia." But do we really need yet another eBook reading device which is bound to come a premium price? The average sales price of this tablet is presumed to be $1000, which is as much as the 13.3-inch MacBook Pro.
One must consider that Apple has recently taken over the Tablet Mac trademark from Axiotron, the MacBook modding company. Probably the Tablet Mac is indeed in the making or at least a prototype is being tested. We can't say for sure if Apple Tablet really exists until some grainy photo is leaked or Apple confirms it.
yeah? Also keep loving and dancing around the tress, a La bollywood style with your dream computer in hand...that'd be quite a sight!
OR - is it time to get real and pragmatic
If this thing runs on 3G network, has a web cam, and suoports all the Iphone apps, plus does telephone, then Appple has a real game changer. Definately worth 1000.
For those that REALLY just don't get it...Microsoft sucks a@@! U get the hardware real cheap and the maintenance, the tech support, etc costs an arm and a leg! U buy a Mac, and that's it, period! No need for IT support. U can do it all yourself, without any special know-how! That's why people pay more upfront, the long term costs are SIGNFICANTLY less!
Yes, but it runs Windows. Apple has enough of an installed base to want to offer a product in this class to its users. Suggesting the Archos would satisfy user in the Mac world is naive. Just as an iPod doesn't satisfy someone passionate about Zune, for example. There should be something for everyone. Product variety in the marketplace is healthy.
But it comes with windows 7 which is not optimized for multi-touch use. It's going to be like windows mobile again. Why buy an iphone when you can get a windows mobile phone? Why buy an ipod when you can buy a zune? Why? Because Microsoft puts out crappy products. Who would be caught dead with a zune or a windows mobile phone? Microsoft is just not cool. That's why the Archos will go nowhere and the apple tablet will take off like the iphone.
I wonder why ANYONE is mystified by "who would pay so much" for a "tablet mac."
You're not thinking it through.
First, If Jobs has anything to do with it, a Mac Tablet will probably take what others are doing with ebook readers and expand upon it with magnitude.
I will be able to carry with me a highly functional Mac computer with the equivalent of literally a ton of books—Reference, How To, Fiction & Non Fiction— on it, whip it out and use it whenever I want.
There are millions of people who travel regularly who will pounce on this device, and just like all of us "re-bought" out same music on cassette, then CD then mp3, so also we will start re-buying stuff that's important to us in ebook format.
You watch!
"The average sales price of this tablet is presumed to be $1000, which is as much as the 13.3-inch MacBook Pro."
Your numbers are off. They've been aiming at trying to keep the tablet around the 800$ range (above the netbooks, but under the MB). And the MBP starts at 1299 range. You're thinking the standard new MB, at 1099.
If the tablet is going to cost a grand to read books and surf the Internet, Apple can keep it. I would rather just buy a Nook or Kindle for a couple hundred bucks. I already have an IPhone, so it would not make sense to own a tablet that pretty much will do the same thing.
I doubt it will cost 1K. Just a quick spin by luddites to wish away apples new, dominant horizon. Get ready for another revenue stream much like the iphone.
