After the CPU and the GPU, if there is any other hardware field where innovations are taking place, it has to be the field of data storage. The latest technology in this field is known as the Solid State Disk or simply SSD. In layman's language, an SSD is very similar to having RAM with an interface of a hard drive. It therefore does not contain any moving parts such as those found in a traditional hard drive (spinning platters, head, etc.) and is therefore more robust, silent and energy efficient.
Kingston is a well-known name, especially amongst enthusiasts and gamers, for being a manufacturer of high-performance PC memory. Using their experience in memory manufacturing, they have also been manufacturing Flash drives and rebadging Intel SSDs, which are known to be highly reliable and speedy. Kingston manufactures three different types of SSDs to cater to three different segments. The E series (for enterprise) is for server environment, M series (for mainstream) is for power users and delivers improved speed and performance, and the V series (for value) is for the general consumer, with a better price to performance or capacity ratio. We have the Kingston SSDNow M-Series SNM125 S2B/80GB 80 GB SSD, also known as the M-Series SSDNow Upgrade Kit with us today. So is this SSD any better than the others out there? Let's find out.
