    HTC Touch2 [Review]

A decent smartphone but definitely overpriced

Good fit and finish and build quality, extensive connectivity options, HTC TouchFLO improves usability a lot, good audio quality

No autofocus and flash for camera, poor touchscreen response, no accelerometer, expensive considering the performance

Design & Construction

The HTC Touch2 has a very simple, typical PocketPC design that reminds one a lot of the old HTC Touch, except that here there is no D-pad below the display. What you do see, however, is a row of buttons for controlling standard functions such as taking and ending calls and buttons for the Home screen, Start screen and the back key. The entire area around the keys, including the keys, has a brushed metal finish, which looks very classy and although the keys are a bit flat against the surface of the phone they are still quite easy to operate.

Above these keys is the 2.8", resistive touchscreen display. The display takes up most of the front side. Right below the display and above the keys is the touch sensitive zoom bar, like the one we saw on the HTC Diamond2. Above the display is a grilled pattern with the earpiece and the status light for the phone hidden behind one of the holes.

Along the sides of the phone runs a chrome finished plastic ring. You'll find the volume control keys on the left along with the microSD card slot. However, even if you can see the slot for the card, the cover does not open unless you remove the battery cover. The right side is completely barren and you wouldn't even find the camera shutter key. On the bottom side is the ExtUSB port for attaching the data cable and the charger.

On the rear side of the phone is the camera lens at the top. The lens has a nice chrome surround with circular patterns on it. On its left is the loudspeaker grille. However, due to the poor positioning, the loudspeakers end up getting muffled when the device is kept on a table. The battery cover is very easy to use and can be pulled out from the catch on the top.

The Touch2 design might not be very attractive but it looks pleasant with a touch of class, thanks to the bushed metal finish on the front and the chrome bits here and there. The build quality of the handset is good. The phone also has a nice rubberized texture to its plastic, which gives it a good grip when held in your hand. The dimensions are also spot on and the phone feels just right in your hand. The phone also feels fairly light, as it is built completely out of plastic unlike other phones that have some metal elements.
