Sony Ericsson Aino: A Sliding Touchscreen Phone

Prasad Naik, Nov 27, 2009 1719 hrs IST

An attractive phone that comes with plenty of connectivity features

Impressive design, good fit and finish, display picture quality, superb audio quality, excellent bundle, FM radio works even with Bluetooth headset

Sluggish interface, cramped keypad, limited touchscreen functionality, no 3.5mm headphone jack, unimpressive camera performance, no DivX/XviD support, records videos at 24 FPS and not 30 FPS

The new Sony Ericsson Aino is the latest touchscreen phone from the Swedish manufacturer to join the touchscreen bandwagon. However, unlike other touchscreen phones, the Aino has a standard keypad under its stylish sliding body. The phone also comes with other features like an 8 MP camera, Wi-Fi, GPS and a Bluetooth stereo headset bundled with it. We took this phone for a test drive to see how it performs against the cutthroat competition.

Bundle

  • Sony Ericsson Aino
  • Battery
  • Charger
  • Bluetooth Stereo Adaptor + Stereo Earphones
  • Dock cradle
  • USB Data Cable
  • 8 GB microSD card
  • User Guide

The bundle of the Aino is one of the best I've seen. The only thing that is missing is a TV out cable.

Can the the partial touch issues can be solved after buying it through a software update?? I am dyeing to bye the aino due to its bundle accessories. So should i go for it ??? I already know that it is pulled out of stores in UK

I think it might be due to software issues and a firmware update could solve the issue, but it could be something wrong with the hardware as well; you never know. It would be best if you wait. You might get it for a bit less as well.

Hey great review, dont know why you bother replying to crap comments (vijayendra mumbai). I am a bit confused does wifi in a mobile work thru my broadband connection at home or do I have to enable it by paying my mobile service provider? a per minute usage charge?

To use the Wi-Fi in the phone you must have a Wi-Fi router connected to your Internet connection. Your phone must then connect to this router and then you'll be able to use your Internet connection wirelessly.

I played around with an Aino at a store yesterday.I was really nice to look at,but its a little large for my tastes.Didn't find out any software bugs in this short stint though, but I liked the W995 better. So I got the W995 instead.

Yes, we usually give people wrong information about the products we review on this site and send them down the wrong paths because we really enjoy the sick pleasure that we get out of it. But I can't believe you found out our secret. Now everyone will know about it. Dayyam!

so the w995 will be good buy ?? which one will be a good buy W995 or aino??. Will i face problems with its partial touch function? here price mentioned is 24K but in sony's exclusive store it is 27k . SO 24k is with tax or without tax?
Prasad Naik
,Mumbai, on Nov 28, 2009 11:06 AM
The W995 is better value compared to the Aino. As for the prices, we always mention prices with taxes.

I cant believe the images shown did really from an 8.1MP camera, any 2 to 3.5MP camera (My SE P990i which is 2MP) can produce much better quality picture than this.Or I dought may be some mistake by the way it is been shooted. Whatever the reason, still SE has to do lot of homework.

Review is good but why isnt there even a single photo of interface. i was looking forward to how this interface atleast looks like. not even media player interface. product images are enough, but i suggest to add some interface pics too.
Prasad Naik

A video of the phone's interface has now been added but we are facing some issues with it due to some technical problems with YouTube. We are working on getting it fixed as soon as possible.
