Are you frustrated with your service provider or the same old problems you face while using your mobile handset? Do you secretly wish you could bring this to some authority's notice without going through all those never ending visits to the consumer courts? Very soon you may be able to sort these issues more quickly states a report in Hindustan Times.

According to the report, the Indian law ministry has asked the ministry of communication and IT to set up a consumer court dedicated to address the grievances of the ever growing mobile phone users in the country.

However, P.J. Thomas, secretary of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), declined to comment saying the ministry is yet to receive written communications from the law ministry, the report added.

The authorities have asked for the formation of a special court to address grievances of mobile phone users, as this will result in a faster decision making and action taking. Also, this would keep a check on the network service providers as well as handset makers.

Do you think this proposal should be implemented to ease consumer problems or is it just a futile effort to waste government money and time? Leave us a comment.

This is definitely the need of the hour. But will serve the purpose if only such courts are granted a status equivalent to High Courts.

Surely I'd welcome the new system at least to restrict the service providers from gaining money w/out consumer awareness. It has happened many times for me with Airtel and still on for VAS (value-added services), though i have not subscribed for any VAS. They activate services like Joke-a-day and otehrs and just pull money. U'd know it only after some days when there is sudden decline in prepaid value. I have called them and deactivated it many times and immediately a week after they automatically activate another service of teh same kind in teh form of SMS and pull another 20 rs. This is ongoing. I'm sad that Airtel pple r doin this bcos i'd been in good relationship with them and trust them for mobile, landline, and Bband services.

I am an Airtel Subscriber in Punjab. The Airtel people have gone to the extent of cutting my calls and closing my requests without notifying me, and they have misbehaved with me on phone. When I told them I am gonna complaint to their superiors, the other person commented - "Kuch nahi kara paoge sir, apna connection hi band karwaoge". These courts are necessary to wake these companies out of their slumber and such attitude driven professionals to start behaving like professionals.
