Performance
HD HQV Benchmark
We ran our HD HQV Benchmark to test the video processor of the TV and how it handles noise, jaggies and other common problems seen in TVs. Here, the LH35FR was able to score 65 points out of 100, which is quite respectable. The noise reduction feature works well and the noise in the picture is considerably reduced. Even in the motion tests, the TV didn't exhibit any trailing issue or ghosting. Another surprising find was in the Film Resolution loss test where we mostly see considerable strobing in the horizontal lines, this time there wasn't any and the entire picture was clean without any flicker.
USB Mode
The USB mode is exactly the same as the rest of the LG TVs and you can access this either via the XStudio button on the remote or it will autostart when you plug in a USB drive. As you know, most LG TVs support NTFS. So, you can easily plug in your portable hard drive as well. All the common DivX formats are supported and so are photos and music.
TV and BluRay viewing
Regular TV programs look good without any major choppiness like we see in the lower end models. Of course, the picture is not exactly crystal clear but when viewed from a distance, it looks good.
This TV does not feature any fancy 200Hz refresh rate, which is ok since it anyways doesn't really make a big difference and plus it helps keep the cost down. Our Pirates of the Caribbean movie looked good once we set the picture mode to Cinema. Vivid just over saturated the colours and the skin tones were all messed up, so it's advisable not to use this. The audio wasn't anything to write home about and the two 12W speakers produce decent sound.
Power Consumption
The power consumption of the TV is very decent. On idle it consumes around 110W with the Vivid colour setting. When you turn on Eco mode this drops down to 70W, but the screen turn darker. Therefore it's best to use this mode at night.
