Yahoo's mobile application Yahoo Go seems to have exhausted its shelf life almost three years after it was first introduced at the 2006 CES. Yahoo Go was an all-in-one Yahoo application with support for various widgets. It offered users a customized version of Yahoo services to the user with access to Mail, news and weather updates. Its 2.0 version had offered Yahoo Messenger support as well - a feature that was strangely withdrawn in the subsequent 3.0 upgrade.
Yahoo had virtually stopped development on the software after the 3.0 upgrade in 2008. Yahoo cites the reason for improved mobile browsers for the reason they have decided to hive off Yahoo Go as a standalone application. With most modern web browsers for phones capable of displaying rich content, the company seems to be favoring the web version of Yahoo Mobile over any standalone application. In fact, Yahoo's Adam Taggart said that a monolithic, all-in-one app is pass now.
The Go Application will expire by January 2010 and it does not seem to be available anymore for download. Iphone and BlackBerry users, however, seem to be exempt with Yahoo offering mobile version of the App for download even now.
