Above the screen is the earpiece, which is engaged with LEDs that determine the phone's network status, battery status, notifications, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Status as well. There is also a light sensor and a secondary video camera for video conferencing.
To the left of the handset is a mini USB port, which is a multipurpose port. It is the charging point, headset point as well as the data cable point for connecting on the handset. This port is closely followed by the jog-dial navigation that was ever so popular in the 'P Series' handsets from Sony Ericsson and is dearly missed by many Sony Ericsson fans. Then there is the microSD card slot.
The left of the phone also features the slide-out QWERTY keypad of the M900. The keys of the keypad are large and well spaced out for easy thumbing of the keys. To enhance typing ergonomics, the keys are all angled in such a fashion that you can place your thumbs comfortably on them. On closer inspection of the keypad you will notice that the feel of the keys is plasticky. The feedback too is pretty tacky. The finish on the buttons is rough and hence it's not comfortable to just slide your thumb over the keys. In addition to that the placement of the alternate characters/symbols for use with the Function key is awkward. The provision of two soft buttons and the directional pad is good. Also, the there are two LEDs which denote if the Function Key or the CAP/Shift Key is engaged.
