As far as portable projectors go, we have earlier seen solutions from LG and Acer that were quite impressive. Even though you had to plug it into a wall socket, being able to carry around a 60-inch screen in your pocket is simply brilliant.

However, a company called Optoma was not satisfied with just this and decided to take it one step further and build something straight out of a sci-fi movie. What they have managed to create is the world's first DLP Pico projector, which is actually the size of a standard mobile phone.

This is the smallest projector to date and this one defines true portability, as you don't need external power since it runs on batteries!

Naturally this uses DLP projection technology with a native resolution of 480x320, 1000:1 Contrast ratio and a maximum display area of 60 inches from around nine feet. Considering the scale of this gadget, it's not bad at all. Hopefully this should translate into some decent performance, or else its pointless having something this small that's not practical.

Along with the Pico projector we'll also be using a Dexim AV adapter for the iPhone that's made for a device like this.

The Aiptek pocket projectors i saw in the grey market ran on LcoS technology and had very poor picture quality - washed out etc. Comparing cheap chinese products with this is like comparing chalk and cheese.

The image is very much real. The image on the iPod touch is different because after connecting a video out device to the iPod, the screen will only show the first frame from the video on the screen, throughout the playback of the file. The video does not play on both the iPod and the connected device simultaneously.
