Rumors about a large screen Nintendo DSi model turned out to be true. Nintendo announced the new Nintendo DSi LL gaming handheld with a 4.2-inch screen. Costing the same as the current generation DSi, the new DSi LL will be available from November 21 in Japan for about $220 (approx. Rs. 10,600).

Nintendo UK and America have confirmed to Gamespot that Nintendo DSi will be released for Europe and US in first quarter of next year but no price was mentioned.

The new DSi LL/XL has a 93 percent larger screen than the DS Lite and is also a bit thicker. Two different sized Styli would be featured with DSi LL/XL. One stylus would be the regular thin one that is packed with DSi, while the other would be large and digital pen like one. Nintendo DSi Lite has a 3-inch screen, DSi has 3.25-inch screen and now DSi LL has a 4.2-inch screen.

Nintendo DSi XL specifications:

4.2" screen, TFT color liquid crystal (260,000 colors)
Width 161.0mm
Length 91.4mm
Thickness 21.2mm
Stylus length: 96.0mm
Large stylus length: 129.3mm
Weight: 314g
Battery life: 4-5 hours maximum brightness, 13-17 hours minimum brightness
Charging time: three hours (when fully depleted)
--DS card slot
--SD memory card slot
--AC adapter
--Stereo headphone/Microphone connected terminal

At the moment Nintendo DSi Ware won't be transferable to the new DSi LL/XL. And just like DSi, the new DSi LL/XL won't have Game Boy Advance port.

Two things are majorly different in DSi LL/XL - larger screens and extra stylus. The battery life is close to that of DSi Lite - three hours. So far there's no concrete reason for this screen refresh from Nintendo.

How can this be a 93% larger screen, when it only enlarges by approximately 30% (4.2 inches from 3.25)? Who did this calculation? A 93% bigger screen would take it upto around about 6 inches!!

From the DS LITE, 3.0 inches, you fool.

Even basing this off the 3" DS Lite that math is wrong. There's no way it's a 93% increase in size.

93% bigger AREA, not bigger diagonal length. 4^2 is 16, 3^2 is 9, that's where the 93% comes from (not exact measurements since they're rectangles and area isn't based on diagonals, also it's 4.2 in. like you said). lern2math

Someone with a simple mind. Lets see 4.2-3.25 is about .95 . Wait that's 95% right? Your math is correct!

The one several posts above is correct it is an increase in area. Lets assume the screens are squares for simplicity's sake: Pythagoras Theorem: a^2 +b^2 = c^2 c= the diagonal, or the measurement of the screen. a and b = sides. Since Out hypothetical screen is square, then a=b. or 2(a^2)=c^2. a^2 would also be the area of our square. Do the math yourself, by working backwards, I'll Skip ahead. 4.2" Diagonal = 8.82 sq. inches 3.25" Diagonal = 5.28 sq. inches 3" Diagonal = 4.5 sq. inches So, The XL is a 67% increase over the original dsi (8.82/5.28 minus 1 that is represent a percent increase rather than a percent decrease) The XL is a 96% increase over the DSLite. Not quite equal, but I assumed they were squares which they obviously are not. so it is more around 93%.
