Sony Ericsson's first ever Android based handset - Rachael - has been officially announced by the company. While we knew about the existence of this phone from the company for ages now, it is nevertheless good to see Sony Ericsson going public with the announcement of the device.

Known as the Xperia X3 in its earlier avatar, it seems to have got a new name X10. It was just yesterday that we posted a story about the video of the UI of the phone in action.  As known by most people who have been following this story for over six months now, Rachael will come with a 1Ghz snapdragon processor, a huge four-inch capacitive display and of course, the much talked about Rachael UI that seemed pretty good on the emulators videos we have seen so far.

Now that the phone has been announced, folks at Engadgt did manage to take a first look and post first impressions of the handset. The first thing they noticed about the UI is that the Rachael UI will be officially known as the UX, which stands for user experience. The version they had was a prototype that lagged and had its share of bugs. The snappy UI that was visible in the videos lagged quite a bit in reality. However, that can be excused considering it was an early build of the phone.

Now, we would like to remind you that this is NOT the launch of the Xperia X10. Sony Ericsson has merely acknowledged the existence of this phone officially. This phone is expected to go on sale in the first half of 2010 and with Sony s not-so-good background in delivering the goods on time, we can only hope the Xperia X10 is not outclassed by other devices by the time of its official launch.

Why no QWERTY keyboard. The reason I bought the X1 was because of the keybgoard.
