The front of the Netbook features a glossy surface with just the Acer logo. Since this a six-cell battery, it protrudes a little at the back but it's not too obtrusive or anything and is totally excusable when you see how slim it is from the sides.
The underneath looks a little messy at first but that's only because it has separate compartments for the RAM, WiFi chip and HDD, so it can be easily replaced.
Notice how slim the base is compared to a regular Netbook. The left side features two USB ports, a microphone and headphone jack, charging port, and neatly tucked in the back is the LAN jack. The good thing about this is that the extra width required for the LAN and VGA port is cleverly camouflaged at the back, a very smart design.
The right has a multi-card reader, the third USB port, and at the end a VGA port.
The front status LEDs show the battery life, Bluetooth and WiFi activity. Another very useful addition is direct shortcuts just below to toggle the Bluetooth and WiFi, which deserves another thumbs up.
Overall the base is just slightly thicker than the lid thereby making it very slim and lightweight. The plastics used in the construction are durable and provide good amount of protection to the components inside.
The keyboard greets you with nice large keys that occupy most of the space. The feedback of the keys is good, as I didn't find any major problems with it. But some of the other guys in the lab didn't like the feedback too much, so I guess its just about personal taste. I would recommend you try it out at a store before you jump on this one.
One thing I will agree is that the directional keys are too cramped in order to distinguish them properly. But my main concern was the right shift key, which thankfully is generously large and not subjected to any weird placement due to "space constraints".
Putting "12 inch" in the subscript when in fact it is a 11.6 incher is misleading. Hell, among netbooks inches matter. 12 inches is closer to 12.1 inches which would disqualify a a device from the netbook tag.
It is a statement of the poor page layout that people can't find the Specs link. And this complaint has been around for a long time. Either TT can't make the change or don't want to
Techtree it's time to grow up! Start giving benchmarks as comparisons because that is how you benchmark. What is up with your PCMark results? Need to compare it with something to make sense. Or is it that you want your readers to go back and check every article that you have posted to find just one bit of information?
Most importantly, learn to use screen space judiciously! You are wasting veritcal space. Just look at any other tech site and then look back at yours. Again look at the PCmark page, for example. One picture?? Just one picture? For heavens sake!
Please learn to write an article instead of posting unexplained pictures with no other content to compare with. That is currently your Achiles' heel. Fix these issues and you are going to become a readable website.
