Sony has announced that the Motion Controller for PlayStation 3 will be available in the spring of 2010 at the Tokyo Game Show. Equipped with high-precision motion sensors, the Motion Controller combines with the PlayStation Eye camera for a new motion-dependent entertainment. At the moment, Motion Controller is a tentative name and Sony might change it later.
At the Electronics Entertainment Expo, Sony had showcased their Motion Controller. PlayStation 3 owners will have will have use PlayStation Eye camera along with the motion controller.
PlayStation Eye is capable of recognizing as well as tracking human face, voice and body motions to show the player's image on the TV screen. The Motion controller is equipped with two motion sensors, three axes gyroscope and three axes accelerometer to detect controller's angle and movement. In conjunction with PlayStation Eye camera, the motion controller can accurately track the position of the controller, detect movement of hand and the precise action is depicted in the corresponding game.
A sphere placed on the top of the controller changes color and illuminates patterns to give a visual feed back, just like the DualShock controller that gives shock effect. Also, the motion controller can perform the rumbling effect like DualShock controller. The motion controller will have Bluetooth 2.0 support and Lithium Ion rechargeable battery.
Motion Controller centric and compatible game for 2010 release:
At the moment, Sony prefers to stay tightlipped about the price of Motion Controller for PS3. Let's wait for next spring (2010) when Sony comes up with a fancy name for Motion Controller.
Sony the once leader of gaming is now ripping off Nintendo and should be scolded... At least MS is doing something completely different with motion control. Shame on Sony.

Sony created motion based gaming with the original EyeToy camera on the Playstation2. Microsoft is ripping Sony off with Natal, and Sony is expanding their original idea with the addition of a motion controller that is far more sensitive than the Wii remote is. Sony had motion based gaming before anyone - please get your facts straight.
the wii is nothing new either motion sensors been used in arcades for years, wii just ported it home. Also with the combination of the playstation eye and its higher graphics the PS3 is going to really push a bind onto Wii, which is lacking the game style needed to carry it. Granted the wii will still lead in "family' entertainment, but for gamers, having a controller with detailed motion, and a camera which can further smooth the motion, will allow for amazing games, which wii will never be capable of. I mean think about playing a 3d game whre the camera puts you into the game, you see the game through your "eyes" but when you raise your arms your character raises both arms in the game. Set this game into multiplayer where your actually seeing the exact look of your opponent and talk about a great game. Player vs Player would have a whole new meaning as your not tied to preset emotes / actions. Granted there is the issue of mature content that way. But hey there are legal tags and labels for that. :)
Actually I think the Nintendo Power Glove accessory for the NES was the first motion-based controller for consumer gaming. It was released in the late 80s, which predates the PlayStation Eye by at least a decade.
eh the power glove just was an IR blaster with 4 sensors that as you moved more of the IR blaster rays to one of the 4 sensors around the tv the nintendo would send a left, up, down, right command. Calling a lazer pointer motion sensoring is a far stretch. NOW I will give you nintendo did have the vague concept for motion sensor, but to be fair the idea really has to go to the light gun which allowed pointing a device at the screen and having the game respond to the direction it was pointed at. cause the power glove was basically that. Just a step up. And well the light gun was originally developed some 10+ years before nintendo was even thought of. It goes back before even atari systems. So to be fair Computers and computer games have always been ahead with technology, but cause that technology is technically too expensive, takes too much space or lacks development groups for software. You don't see them much.
But the big key note is never who is first but who does something better with it. Just can't wait to see where PS3 and xbox take it.
