Roydon Cerejo, Sep 17, 2009 1200 hrs IST

22-inch full HD monitor that looks good and performs well too

Feature-rich, HDMI, four USB ports, stylish design, built-in webcam, good performance

Expensive, awkward placement of HDMI port

Performance

Display Mate 1.25

We ran our Display Mate tests to check for color bleeding and fringing that haunt LCD monitors. The Dell breezed through the Geometry tests but the Color reproduction tests had a slightly different story. While there wasn't any fringing seen around text, there was a little streaking in the color bars, especially in the blue bar test. The different shades of blue could not be distinguished that easily, while the rest of the color spectrum fared a little better. Unlike the Dell SP2309W that covered 98% of the NTSC color spectrum, the SX2210 does not have this feature. But that's just a synthetic test; let's see how this monitor fares in real world scenarios.

General and Multimedia usage

After tinkering around with the settings we found the Standard mode to be most suitable for daily usage as well as movies. You could use Dynamic Contrast for games but the only problem with that is if you're playing a dark level it becomes hard. At the native resolution text is very comfortable to read even at a distance of 4ft from the screen. The glossy finish is a real pain due to reflections so you might want to double check your seating area for any light source that may be behind you.

The buttons at the side are a bit tricky to use, especially because there are no markings to tell you the function of each button. Instead, the names of these buttons appear in the OSD, which does not make things any easier as the buttons don't protrude that much and you have to rely on your sense of touch.

The OSD is the same as the SP2309W with all your basic color presets, source and other settings that can be customized. What's not present is a button to directly switch between sources. For instance you can add it as a shortcut, but at the end you have to toggle between the sources manually. The stand does not wobble when pushed from the side and provides a good base for the monitor.

One thing that I didn't like is the placement of the HDMI port, which is directly in the center of the stand making it really tricky when it comes to connecting an HDMI cable.

This is where the monitor really shines: movies look really good with bright, vibrant colors and no signs of any ghosting or trailing. The same goes for games, we played Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, which has really good HDR lighting and great visuals.

Yes there are also many LCD models that exist and are not on the site. Theres some issue going on with dell related to their pricing. I called them up today and they said for another 2-3 weeks they wont be selling LCD monitors above 18" due to some taxes that the Indian government has imposed on them and which dell does not agree to. I hope this gets over fast, i was looking at dell as a possible buy, but now i guess ill have to reconsider.

Dell realy going down these days. 1st of all when i called customer care they said they dont sell monitors above 18 inch these days. W T F? 2nd i had been asking for dell CC from Jan 2009 for dell USharp 2209wa and they r keep on saying it will be here next month. W T F? This yr is almost over and still same recorded ansers from their jerk CC guys. 3rd for dell xps 16 in us,uk even in malyasia dell xps offer 1gb of 4670 gpu but here still no option for this card , i mean xps is targeted towards gamers, but they only sell out-dated products in india, which has been dumped by others countries, with full price tag of latest products. W T F? 4th dell site is mess they show all products there without showing their price and even the products that is not availabe here. W T F? why they dont only show products which are availabe here in I n d i a. 5th dell opned their outlets in india now but they only deal with laps their. This is realy W T F. Dell is now in my shit-list. I ordered Samsung XL2370 which will hit indian shore in Oct. said to my by samsung disti. in delhi. And looking/waiting for some other better brand for purchasing Lappy instead of purshasing for dell. I had enough for Dell-India(Dull-India).

Spot on! Just a couple of week back I enquired about 24' monitor at lamington road in Mumbai, a Model S2409w was availabel for Rs.15,000/-. Samsung 24' was for Rs.12000/-. Only +ve was Dell was having HDMI port. But full 3000 for one port. I checked for review on net and it's performance was similar to Samsung. Dell india website does not show this model. On online market may be in US it's price was 200 to 250 US$, even if v convert 1$ = 50 Rupees it's cheaper. It seems the US companies are losing in pricing. Just see the MS OSs pricing and one will realize.
