The Philips Home Theater System is a simple and plain looking speaker system. The system is meant as a simple but lifestyle audio solution of sorts. But plain and simple doesn't really work, not unless it looks very exquisite.
The system has four tall speakers, a center speaker, a sub-woofer, and DVD player amplifier. The tall speakers are very easy to assemble and have just one screw each to have them up and standing. The attachment of wires to the speakers and the DVD/Amplifier is very simple because of the use of wires with color coded plugs.
Coming to the four tall speakers; they are pretty bland with a flat face design, more like slim rectangular blocks. The stands have a glossy finish, which is a nice touch. Each of the speakers has three 3-inch drivers and a tweeter all hiding behind a metal mesh. The base of the speakers covers a large area and that's good for the stability of the tall speakers.
The center speaker is a simple block of speaker. It has two 2.5-inch and one 2-inch drivers and they are really powerful. The center speaker breathes life into the home theater. It's that powerful but it gives way in terms of quality.
The sub-woofer of the Philips Home Theater is a simple looking block featuring an 8-inch driver. The driver is covered with fabric. The sub-woofer is a right firing module and has a vent at the front. The sub-woofer is the only from all the other speakers that features a Philips logo on it.
Comparing with 'BlueRay' home theater systems makes sense in the reviews because BlueRay has been accepted as next level to DVD. It has already taken off in western countries. What we need in India is spread the info on Blueray so we can transition faster to the newer format.
"Consumers looking for a not-so-expensive Home Theater set up with Blu-ray may be disappointed with this""
Open your eyes Mr Barretto, where can you find BD titles, and even if you find one can you get at a reasonable price.Check the price tag of BD player and DVD player,BD HTB and DVD HTB. As for the TV or Video Monitor is taken into account currently 90% of the market is SDTV and Monitors, and nobody knows for sure how long this BD will exist.Spending another 10 to 20k extra for a BD player is utter foolishness.
