Line2 app adds second phone line to iPhone, bears Google Voice-esque functionality
Apple found itself in controversy for rejecting Google Voice app for iPhone recently. Now, a new app Line2 has been approved for iPhone. Developed by Toktumi, Line2 allows iPhone users to add a second virtual number with voicemail to their iPhone devices. This app enables users to keep separate numbers for business and personal contacts.
While the Google Voice App-rejection heat hasn t simmered as FCC is inquiring Apple and AT&T for app rejection, this new app might spark some differences between Google and Apple. Toktumi s Line2 that got approved after three months offers 800 numbers, a local number or transfer existing number. Line2 is similar to Google Voice App as it allows giving alternate number for different contacts and also allows saving voicemail from the respective contacts.
Despite the similarity at some level, Line2 does have certain features different from Google Voice app. Like Line2 doesn t offer SMS support. Also, to be clear, this service is an alternative to Google Voice. However, Line2 also has number keypad and voicemail like Google Voice does. Apart from that, Toktumi also offers cheaper International calling and works over cellular network instead of WiFi.
Google Voice app might get approved by Apple, but with certain features disabled. Now, everyone would be wondering if Apple will approve Google Voice app or will the app be dumped stating potential conflicts of interests .
Line2 simply adds a second phone line with a new number to iPhone and thus will allow users to keep business and personal contacts separate.
