So far, Nokia N900 was seen only in spy shots and leaked official pictures. So, a week before the Nokia World event, the N900 is finally official!

Without further ado, let's delve into the features of this one! The N900 is not your "normal" N series device. It is the first Maemo 5 based Internet tablet and the successor to the Nokia N810 Internet tablet. The device has an impressive hardware spec sheet that begins right from the processor - an ARM Cortex A8 that provides 1GB of application memory and Open GL ES 2.0 Graphics acceleration support.

The OS is Linux-based Maemo 5 that provides the device comprehensive multitasking ability. All these combined with the powerful processor gives the Maemo 5 the oomph to compete with the likes of the iPhone and trump it comprehensively. This time even matching iPhone on the UI front, where it was the traditional laggard, thanks to Nokia's dependence on S60. For those interested in the Maemo interface, there's a nice video over at the official Nokia Maemo website here.

The N900 also features a WVGA touchscreen and a full, slide out QWERTY keyboard. It comes with 32GB of memory (which really isn't an upgrade over the N97) and with an expansion slot, you can add up to 48GB, which should suffice for "normal" users. With a decent 5 megapixel camera, the N900 seems to take photography seriously. All the other features you might expect find their way in as well. We're talking about the A-GPS and FM transmitter support.

The N900 according to Nokia will feature a browser based on Mozilla technology. This naturally means that we will have a final version of Mozilla's Fennec browser that was in the works for quite some time on a device. It is a fully featured browser and will show content "as is", says Nokia. Additionally, with the powerful processor, web browsing would be an enjoyable experience on the N900. The N900 also gets full Adobe Flash 9.4 support. On the connectivity front, it supports HSPA Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity as well.

The Nokia N900 will be available in select markets from October 2009 at an estimated retail price of EUR 500 (Rs. 35,000 approx.) excluding sales taxes and subsidies.
