Microsoft has officially announced a $100 price cut on its Xbox 360 Elite model and a $50 price cut on Xbox 360 Pro model after a lot of rumors regarding the same came out. The price cut is effective worldwide from Aug. 28. Microsoft will be offering Xbox 360 Pro with 60GB HDD model till the stocks last - means it would be phased out eventually. There isn't any price cut on Xbox 360 Arcade version. The current Xbox 360 consoles will work with Project Natal.
So now, Xbox 360 Pro 60GB is priced as much as Nintendo Wii - $249 (Rs. 12,000 approx.) while the Xbox 360 Elite is priced at $299 (Rs. 14,400 approx.) which is as much as PS3 Slim.
Microsoft would be removing HDMI cable from the new Xbox 360 Elite bundle after the price-cut becomes effective. Aaron Greenberg, Microsoft's director of product management, told Ars Technica, "According to our research, most of the customers who bought the Elite weren't using the HDMI. We've removed it, and pased it on as part of our price savings." When the Elite model was launched, the prices of HDMI cables were high. But now, the prices of HDMI cables have gone down and Microsoft expects consumers to buy cable separately when required.
David Dennis, Microsoft spokesperson, told Reuters that the price cut has been in the works for some time now, and was not a response to Sony's announcement of PS3 Slim. Even if Microsoft doesn't accept it, the price cut was deserved since Xbox 360 doesn't level with PS3 in terms of features as the latter offers WiFi and Blu-ray support.
Microsoft is on the roll this month as the Xbox 360 price cut follows the Xbox LIVE dashboard update which was out earlier this month.
I have a question :
Does the Elite (new one) have a HDMI port?
And does anyone knows if Nintendo was going to have a break thru like Sony and Microsoft?
Demetri, new Xbox 360 Elite bundle AFTER price cut won't have HDMI cable, but the HDMI port will always exist on the console. Hope that clears the confusion.
