Over the weekend, Zune HD had a gala time at Best Buy Preview (PDF Link) at several locations in U.S. The mysterious Zune HD menu was spotted while it was being showed to the interest customers. Also, a different packaging box of Zune HD was spotted on micro-blogging site Twitter.

Zune HD's new black colored box package was randomly posted on Twitter by crazyphoneguy. However, the most interesting information that was revealed over the weekend was Zune HD's mysterious apps menu captured on camera. Microsoft is expected to launch Zune HD next month along with Xbox LIVE integration since the recent Xbox LIVE dashboard update mentioned Zune Video as an upcoming "new experience".

Since the apps menu was spotted and Xbox LIVE support coming soon, it's obvious that Microsoft has planned to take on Apple with games and apps for Zune HD. It's no secret anymore that Nvidia Tegra chip resides in Zune HD which will not only serve as backbone for HD playback but also some gaming prowess.

Microsoft already has Zune Game Development community going on for bringing games on Zune. What if independent game developers want to develop games for Zune HD? Not to forget, Microsoft also has Microsoft XNA set of tools with managed runtime environment. In March, XNA Game Studio 3.1 was announced at Games Developers Conference and the new API is capable of supporting video playback (Ahem, for Zune Video?), Xbox LIVE Party, revised Audio APIs and support for Xbox 360 avatars. Developing games using Microsoft XNA looks like a fair deal and in a way, evidential.

Also, Microsoft might be planning to release a new SDK for developing Zune HD apps. Matthew Arkin, a self-proclaimed Microsoft guru managed to capture the apps menu in a video. Arkin inquired about any SDK for apps and got confirmation about Zune HD SDK.

So, Microsoft Zune HD is all set to battle Apple iPod Touch. With XNA Framework for games and new SDK, Microsoft is seriously aiming to cash-in the apps business like Apple is enjoying currently.
