What? 4G, In India? We have had a torrid time implementing the 3G spectrum and license and now that first of the 3G Services have started trickling in, Motorola wants to do a trial run of 4G in India!
And they seem to be extremely optimistic about it. According to reports, the company will soon approach the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for a trial spectrum allotment for testing LTE (Long Term Evolution) services in India. Now, the worrying thing about this is that the implementation of 4G will shed water on the Government's plan to raise Rs.35,000 crore by selling spectrum for 3G Services. Looks like we'll soon see some interesting developments on this front in the near future.
As for LTE, we can expect insane data speeds of up to 70Mbits/s with this one. We don't have those kinds of speeds even on our broadband networks today. Too much too soon? Only time will tell.
3G is a major government failure in planning. I guess the developing word is only good at Leapfrogging which we would once 4G comes up very soon, I wouldnt wonder if 4G is introduced in about a yr and ahalf or 2.
The 3G story has been dragging on since 2004, something like a humlog serial, a government drama.
There nothing called 5G. when LTE (4G) is rolled out.. it makes lot of sense for country like india to invest in 4G infrastructure rather than on 3G.. bcoz we haven't even started with rolling out 3G fully

Hey there Sarath. U might've heard from the very knowledged n experienced elders of our's tht if we r not well knowledged abt something we shudnt just blabber abt it bcos it only results in self insult...which is happening to u right now. For ur kindest infromation there is nothing called 5G network in telecommunication world. Please i request u not to miscommunicate with the others around while u r not knowing abt the matter. Thanking You.
I am astonised to hear about development of fourth generation of telestandard and telecommunication technology 4G spectrum. But will 4G have faster data access and multimedia transfer superseding 3G in transfer speed. Only Time will decide upon the same only after the implementation of such technology. Developing 4G technology add another feather to the cap of motorola.
First There is NO such thing 5G.
Second LTE is not implemented anywhere in world for commercial use. We will see some only in mid of 2010 or end of 2010.
Third it's better to wait for 6-8 months and then scrap 3G and go for 4G directly.
Fourth EU is thinking for LTE advanced, which gives your more data rates than just 70Mbps.
when govt.is expecting a revenue of 35,000 crores just by selling the spectrum of 3G.
just think what might be the earnings by 3G will be.
and think of 4G's sales and revenues and other developements.
there is the opportunity, it is called as talent.
This is a good development... but here is something motorola.. this is india and the politicians here are very "ENCOURAGING"... So all the best.... And the most optimistic time frame which i can think of implementaton of 4g in india is 9-10 years....
