Talks between the companies are on, but no agreement as yet
So, days after the reports of an iPhone invasion in China, a China Unicom spokesperson has confirmed that the 5 million iPhone headed towards China was all hot air.
While China Unicon has confirmed that it is "in talks" with Apple for selling the iPhones all over China, the order for 5 million iPhones has not been placed. China Unicom spokesperson pooh-poohed the claims by some sections of the Chinese media who had reported this news first. Later, it was taken up by the international media. The spokesperson did say, "Talks between us and Apple have been going on for some time", albeit without reaching an agreement yet.
From Apple's side, its spokesperson in China, Tiffany Yang, also confirmed that as of now, there is no information as to when the iPhone will make its scheduled landing in China. It was widely expected that the iPhone would reach China by this September. That seems unlikely now.
Apple should really learn to "let go" . Their control issues are ever present in the news , presented by end consumers, carrier restrictions, developer problems and U2-Bono opting for RIM-Blackberry. They lost to RIM in Indonesia and India. Now Dell is working with China Mobile.. get a clue. The platform, interface -basically the phone is amazing, even on an enterprise level but if Apple can't learn to play ... well, history shows, they will crash and burn against competition. Bullies don't win in the end.
