With a clock speed bump, AMD announces 3.4GHz Phenom II X4 Black Edition processor
AMD has launched yet another 45nm Deneb core based 3.4GHz Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition processor for its 'Dragon' platform. This quad-core Phenom II 965 BE processor is slight frequency boosted version of the Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition launched in April this year. AMD's Black Edition means that the processors are unlocked for overclocking. Apparently, AMD smartly tries to compete with Intel's CPUs codenamed Yorkfield - the Core2 Quad Q9550 and the likes.
AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE processor runs at clock speed of 3.4GHz, speed bumped from 3.2GHz of Phenom II X4 955 BE. Apart from that, X4 965 BE processor has 8MB cache, Socket AM3, support for DDR3 memory and 2GHz Hyper Threading link. Like other Phenom II chips, the X4 965 can put the idle cores to sleep modes.
The Phenom II X4 965 chip also features CoolCore technology can be used for saving power and reducing heat dissipation by clocking down the inactive L3 cache portions. Phenom II X4 chips are backward compatible with older Socket AM2+ based motherboards. However, users with newer AM3 based motherboard owners can make the best of this quad-core chip with faster DDR3 memory modules.
AMD will retail Phenom II X4 at a price of $245 (Rs. 11, 800 approx.).
