Kumar Deep, Jul 27, 2009 1723 hrs IST
It would be accessible via SMS too
The government has approved the national integrated directory services (NIDQS) for mobile and fixed wireline services.
Department of telecom (DoT) has approved all the recommendations made by telecom regulatory Trai for mobile number directory.
In an internal meeting, top officials of DoT has accepted all the recommendations made by regulator Trai in 2008 for mobile directory services.
The only exception is that of offering only one licence for providing directory services.
Customers will have a five digit number to call for inquiring about any phone number in the country.
Trai had earlier suggested a mobile directory for both pre-paid and post-paid customers.
The integrated directory would be accessible via SMS too.
