    Bing Snacks on Google's Share

    Will it devour Google?

    mail share

Microsoft's Bing search engine has completed a month and it's slowly lurking towards big daddy Google search's market share. So, instead of lapping in significantly large amount of search-market share, Bing is gradually moving up. According to data from Hitwise, Bing grew at a weekly rate of 25 per cent during June and managed to capture 5.25 per cent of the total US market for the month.

Hitwise boasts of providing "insights on how 10 million U.S. Internet users interact with more than 1 million Websites." As per Hitwise, Google maintains the search market dominance with larger 74 per cent share in US Internet search in June. Yahoo was on second place with 16 percent share and Ask.com came on fourth with 3.2 % as per Hitwise.

So Bing has gradually grown to compete with the Google but the challenge is still in pretty nascent stage. Bing itself requires bit of tweaking. Ever since its launch, lot of enthusiasts and Windows Live Search fans have been trying it out. Of course, the initial spike is bound to be there.

According to ComScore's data from June 8 to 12, Google enjoyed the lion share of 65 per cent in search engine market of US Internet Search. On the other hand, Microsoft's share spiked from 11.3 percent during Bing's debut to 12.1 percent.

Needless to mention that initial novelty does attract loads of users and spike in the growth are bound to happen. However, jumps of few feet isn't enough for Microsoft for it has a long way to go for even equaling the market share of search engine giant Google. It's too early to decide whether Bing will outsmart Google or will fail. Nonetheless, Bing might turn out to be a Google alternative.

Yesterday, Stefan of Bing sent a tweet to Google saying - Hey @Google-can u take a look at ur index/captions? The 2nd rslt 4 Bing shows a cap frm last Sat thx! ^sw. And not surprisingly, the thing hasn't been fixed, till now.

Is Google ignoring the issue knowingly? Or is it too busy tweaking their Google search?

Well, Bing replaced live search, so should have taken over Live's existing share. So, considering it already had an existing share, how much exactly did it grow over Live?

just simply thre things about bing------- as i just used it and compared to google . first google is 10 times faster than bing on my computer, google gives far more results and details than bing , infact bing only gave 2 results when i searched google and 1 result for ubuntu. In fact i think nursery going kids can teach microsofts bing to make some good changes. And google is always a time saver and secure.

LOL, I really had to laugh at this article. Besides the fact that Bing had a built in user base already, at 5% you're talking about them making a run at Google who has 74%? They need to worry about beating Yahoo before they even think of how to beat Google.

Let's not bother to remind readers that people are performing thousands of "searches" each week while they play flash games on microsoft's sites.....do they ever look at the results? Nope! Too busy clicking on things....but, hey, it helps MS look like they have a real user base...and that's all that matters.

LOL! You Microsofties make me laugh. Bing is at 5% for a reason. Quit dreaming. You can't even beat Yahoo!
