For centuries man has tried to develop imaging techniques that can mimic the 3D stereo visual perception, so that the illusion of depth can be recorded and experienced later. The science associated with this reproduction of three dimensional information using two separate images is known as Stereoscopy.
Humans view the world in three dimensions and this is possible due to the binocular vision (vision through two eyes). The left eye and the right eye view things a bit differently due to the difference in perspective. It is this parallax of vision that results in the final 3D image that forms in the brain.
It is on this same fundamental that 3D stereo visual reproduction is based, in all the numerous attempts until now. We shall have a look at how things took shape over the course of years, starting from no-tech as we go to hi-tech.
