The number of mobile phone subscribers in India is certainly humongous; one can safely say so as the Department of Telecom , or DoT, has almost run out of numbers that begin with '9'!

So, soon enough, you'll have numbers that begin with the digit 8. According to ToI, 10 crore new numbers will be introduced, out of which approximately half will be allotted to companies.

According to Telecom regulatory Authority of India, or TRAI, India had 415 million cellular subscribers at the end of May 2009, compared to 277 million, a year ago. Considering there will be substantial growth in the number of telecom service subscribers in the coming months, DoT is considering making mobile phone numbers to 11 digits.

With fresh numbers up for grabs soon (11 digit numbers beginning with '8'?), companies would really be able to gather cool cash from frenzied customers crazy about VIP numbers.
