Not even a fortnight, Apple rolls out iPhone OS 3.1 beta to developers
Apple has rolled out iPhone OS 3.1 beta update and iPhone SDK 3.1 beta to developers while it's hardly been a fortnight since iPhone OS 3.0 update arrived. This update comes immediately a day after Steve Jobs returned to work at Apple headquarters after his illness. The recently released iPhone OS 3.0 software update not only had number of much needed features bit also bugs!
The new iPhone OS 3.1 beta update brings 'Save a Copy' option for iPhone 3GS' video editing feature. Several new features are yet to be discovered but The iPhone Blog has compiled a few. The Voice Control feature will now work over Bluetooth as well.
Another interesting feature in this beta update is that the iPhone OS based device vibrates when icons are being moved. An important change is that the modem firmware for iPhone models gets updated to 5.08.01 version.
While the MMS (multimedia messaging service) buttons were not available for AT&T customers, they make their appearance now.
For the developers, this update brings improvement in OpenGL and Quartz. With OpenGL related improvements, we'll get to see some good graphics games on iPhone apart from apps. Also third party apps would be able to access videos and edit them.
The iPhone-Dev team told the ultransn0w users to stay away from the iPhone OS 3.1 updates or else they'll lose unlock. We know not when Apple will release iPhone OS 3.1 update but it was quite surprising for Apple to push update to developers in such a short span of time.
